About the Fabric:

+ Made with hand-loomed tussar silk from West Bengal, India.

+ Tussar silk is a wild-grown silk, made from the empty cocoons of wild Emperor moths. The empty cocoons are collected by women in tribal communities, and provides them with a steady source of income. As it is wild – grown silk, no silkworms are killed in the manufacturing process.

+ Originating in the villages of West Bengal, the kantha embroidery technique has been in practice since 1500 BC.

+ Kantha embroidery originally began as an ingenious way to recycle old saris and household textiles.

+ A simple running stitch was used to cover several layers of fabric in intricate motifs and patterns inspired by everyday village life and nature.

+ Of the 7 different types of kantha embroidery, we have the privilege of featuring a unique style called ‘par tola’.  This method uses intricately stitched designs inspired by the precise geometric patterns found in Islamic artwork.

+ All par tola designs are stitched by eye – nothing is pre-sketched on the fabric.

About the Sachet

+ Filled with our own blend of 170 g of organic pearl barley and French Lavender buds

+ Its lovely scent will keep for many years if cared for properly. Store inside an airtight bag or pouch when not in use.

+ Inside, we’ve lined the eye pillow with 100% handloom cotton, to contain the lavender and help it to breathe.

Approximate Dimensions:

+ 9” x 4” ( 22.86 cm x 10.16 cm)

Care Instructions :

+ Hand wash the outer cover in cold water with a mild soap. Lay flat to air dry. Do not put into dryer.

+ Keep away from open flame. To gently warm the eye pillow, place the inner pillow into a waterproof, airtight container and place into a bowl of hot or cold water.

+ Alternatively, remove the outer cover and place the inner pillow in the microwave and heat for no more than 8 seconds.
