About the Fabric:
+ Made with hand-woven, hand-loomed organic kala cotton khadi from Gujarat, India.
+ Khadi refers to cotton, silk, or wool cloth that is created entirely with human power.
+ Kala cotton is an indigenous, Old World Indian cotton variety that is organically grown, non-GMO, rain-fed, and naturally disease and pest resistant.
+ The history of khadi cotton cloth can be traced back to about 5000 BC and the Indus Valley Civilization.
+ The breathable, cooling, and lightweight cloth was highly sought after in the ancient world by the Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Chinese, and Persian empires.
+ By 200 AD, khadi cotton was being traded and exported as a luxury item, up until the East India Company’s calculated destruction of the Indian textile industry in the 19th century.
+ It has long been recognized as a symbol of defiance against colonialism and played an integral role in India’s Independence movement.
